Family Christmas Advent Calendar

—- Week 4 —-

We’ve made it! Christmas Day is just around the corner. Hopefully, this month of activities has helped your family create some fun, lasting memories. For these last few days, there’s not much left to do except enjoy the Christmas spirit that’s filling houses, streets, front yards and shopping centres everywhere.

December 22 : Christmas Carols

No matter where you live, there’s usually some local Carols nights around this time. With fun, free entertainment for the whole family, head on down with a blanket, a candle and a picnic dinner. There may even be a special appearance by the man in red himself.

December 23 : Christmas books

Time to get out the old Christmas stories. Perhaps after dinner, with a warm hot chocolate… A friend of mine used to wrap up her books so the kids could pick one at random and unwrap it - how fun!

December 24 : Cookies for Santa

T’was the night before Christmas! I’m sure by now the kids excitement levels are peaking. Time to put out the customary treats for Santa and his reindeer, whether it’s carrots, cookies, milk or something else. If the original cookies you baked in week 1 have been mysteriously eaten, there’s a few more ideas on this week’s pinterest page.

December 25 : Enjoy Christmas Day!

All the shopping, all the decorating, all the planning and wrapping are finally over. It’s time to gather with family, share some festive food with your loved ones and take lots of happy pics of the kids enjoying their Christmas pressies! Don’t forget to get on the floor and play with your children - it will be fun for both of you!!

For me and my family, Christmas and Easter are the two most important days for our faith and our family. There’s so much joy and hope to celebrate, but over the years I notice more and more the trap of commercialism and busyness. I feel it’s so important to slow down and savour the little moments and create traditions that our kids will treasure for the rest of their lives.

I hope you’ve had an absolute ball with the lead up to Christmas this year. I’ve had so much fun watching all of the action on #christmasfamilyness and would love to see more of the family fun as it happens over the festive season. Thanks for following along and feel free to check out this week’s pinterest page with a few final ideas, especially fun ways to create moments that matter with story books this Christmas.
