Tips for a Successful Branding Photoshoot
Setting up a professional branding photoshoot is a great way to create personalised, custom content for your website, social media channels and marketing campaigns. Stock photos can be very useful sometimes, but to really stand apart and elevate your business in a crowded marketplace, publishing your very own unique and custom content will allow potential customers and clients to get to know you better and trust you more. Here are a few of my top tips to help you get the most of your photoshoot and enjoy the entire experience...
1. Choose a brand photographer whose style complements your business
Every photographer has their own style so be sure to work with one that aligns with your brand. If your business is corporate and polished you’ll probably want to choose a photographer who specialises in custom studio lighting. If your brand is more casual and relaxed you want a lifestyle photographer whose style reflects that same aesthetic.
2. Plan your branding photos ahead of time
It’s a great idea to make a plan for what you want to achieve in the next 90 days and then plan the content you’ll need for your upcoming campaigns and events. If you know you’ve got a workshop coming up for example, then create the specific content you’ll need for your facebook ads and landing pages.
3. Incorporate your brand colours
Bring in your palette of brand colours to truly customise your images. It might be a subtle hint of colour in some flowers, lipstick, earrings, or your outfit. Having a consistent thread of colour through all your images will bring cohesion and trust. Have fun with it!
4. Bring along props
Props can be another way to show people what you do and who you are. It might be a laptop or a pretty planner or some of your products, or maybe even a green smoothie or your pet dog. Props can help add personality to your images.
5. Multiple wardrobe options
To give some variety to your final image library, bring along 3 or 4 outfit options. Whether it’s something dressy or something something casual, be sure to stick to your brand. Layering accessories and jackets is also a quick and easy way to add variety.
6. Pamper yourself
A few days before photo day is the best time to head to the salon. Although you may want your hair styled on the actual photo day, hair colour and wax treatments need a couple of days to settle. And don’t forget little details like getting your nails done.
7. Show your stuff
If you create products, it’s really great to show them being used. A simple, clean product shot is always necessary, but adding in a human element and showing it being used really helps your potential client connect with it.
8. Phone a friend
If you are a service based business, like a consultant, coach or designer, bring a friend along to your photoshoot to be your pretend client. Not only will a friend help you feel more comfortable throughout the shoot, but we can create images that evoke trust and connection.
