Creating Childhood Memories for Your Kids
Each of us likely have places we remember fondly from our childhood. Maybe it was the family holiday spot or a nearby park or river, a special place where you’d go to play and imagine and have adventures. As you read this, maybe the place springs to mind and a smile appears as you think of the fond memories you have at your childhood happy place. We may live far away from these treasured places now, but they remain special to us because we cherish the memories we have there.
I recently had the pleasure of going to photograph the Storey family at their favourite hangout, Hyams Beach, on the South Coast of NSW. It’s a beautiful spot and I can see why the girls just love to go there, have a swim and play around the rock pools. What’s even more special is, by choosing somewhere they regularly go to, the memories captured in these photographs really encapsulate what childhood is like for the girls right now. Jemima and Bethany will be able to look back on these photographs and remember the fun, silly afternoons playing with Mum and Dad at their favourite childhood hangout. With Dad being in the Navy, the family may move or be posted elsewhere, but they’ll always remember the fun they had a few times a week at Hyams Beach. It was so good to be able to get these photos while Dad was home, and both Dad and Mum didn’t miss the chance to get in and have some crazy, silly fun with their girls.
