The danger of leaving your family photoshoot with 'just the digitals'
There’s no argument that digital photos are appealing. In this day and age, we are lucky to be able to take and store an innumerable amount and have them right at our fingertips. But it’s not without danger. It’s easy to have a stack of photos on a USB and feel safe. You have ‘all the photos’ and can do anything with them at any time. But in our busy world, leaving your photoshoot with a bunch of files on a USB isn’t serving you and here’s why.
DIGITAL FILES ALONE ARE A BURDEN
When you leave an appointment with a large amount of digital files, there’s still a lot of legwork waiting for you. The photos need sorting. Which ones should you print? How will you print them? Where’s the best place to print them? Which photos will look best together in a display? It’s the kind of task that can feel overwhelming and often be pushed to next week when you’ve got more time (and then we all know what happens when ‘next week’ comes around!). This burden can often mean the photos stay locked away on the USB. So, even though you feel ‘safe’, your beautiful new photos aren’t being celebrated or enjoyed. And with each passing milestone, the number of photos grow along with the overwhelm. They will likely end up being passed onto your kids on a USB that could be lost or outdated and the burden is just handed down for them to sort through thousands of photos one day. The joy of the images and the memories is diminished.
PHOTOS THAT SERVE YOUR FAMILY
As a family photographer, my goal is to make your life easier and to assist you in celebrating your unique family and record each season in your story. I don’t see a USB as a tool for parents, so much as another task to get to one day, and as parents today, don’t we already have enough to do? Finishing your photo experience with photos already in frames or in an album is a relief - my clients tell me all the time! Your memories are safe, printed in the highest quality our industry provides and there’s nothing else for you to do but enjoy them. I even offer an wall art installation service too! Your memories become family heirlooms, easily passed along to your kids to continue to bring joy and celebration for generations.
PRINTED MEMORIES BRING JOY NOW AND FOR GENERATIONS
Digital photos may have seemed like an easy and convenient option. But the work and mental decision-making they create don’t serve you or your kids. Having printed photo memories, whether that be an album or prints on a wall, make them accessible and instantly able to be enjoyed. I want to guide your family through the selection process, and help you curate a storybook or wall art that speaks of your family story and who each member of your family is at this point in life.
I was reflecting recently after the passing of the beautiful Queen Elizabeth II at all the photos shared on the television. That brilliant archive of photos wasn’t built in a day. There was a constant, steady documentation of her life, which is now a legacy to her kids and grandkids. Photos are our opportunity to build an archive of our family stories. If we don’t do it now, we won’t have it then. I truly believe that photos aren’t just for the now, for social media and your phone. Photos are an important reflection of your family life and a visual time capsule. Creating them and displaying them now is like building a library of your family history as it’s being made.
