Photographing your walls for your design mockup

Designing custom wall art for your home is very different from printing out your favourite snapshots and popping them in some frames.

Using my background in both graphic design and photography, I’m going to design some wall art that’s perfectly suited to your home, space and decor so you can enjoy your family memories each day. We’re going to transform your home into your own personal art gallery with photos that are a reflection of your greatest moments!

So, before our session, take a walk through your home and take a snapshot of anywhere that you might consider displaying wall art. I usually suggest the rooms that the family gathers the most so you can enjoy them the most. But also consider the dining room, bedrooms, the kids play room, home office - anywhere really! I can design mockups for you so you can see what wall art will look like in those spaces before you make any purchasing decisions. I don’t know about you, but I’m a visual person and seeing something really helps me understand it better. And knowing exactly what size will work best for your space will also allow me to give you some budget expactations.

Here’s how to take the best photo for your design mockup…

  1. tape a piece of A4 paper to the wall so I can use it as a size reference

  2. take the photo standing directly in front of the wall facing it straight on (ie, not on an angle)

  3. include as much of the surroundings as possible. It will help to give visual context as you view the mockup.

  4. if you’ve already got something hangin on your walls, feel free to leave it in. I can design over the top of it. Just let me know what size the existing piece is.

  5. email your snapshot through and give as much information about your decor as possible (eg. warm wood tones, sleek contempory, bright and airy, beechy, hamptons, lots of black accents, etc.)
